The 2025 edition of the Amundi Institutional CIO Program took place on 13-14 November at Amundi’s Paris headquarters as part of our Knowledge Transfer initiative. Chaired by Vincent Mortier, Group Chief Investment Officer, and Jean-Jacques BarbĂ©ris, Head of Institutional and Corporate Clients Division and ESG Supervisor, the event brought together Amundi experts and CEOs, CIOs and senior executives from major global institutions, including central banks, sovereign entities and pension funds.

Key agenda highlights

The program revolved around two core themes:

  • Investing in a new multipolar world
  • Building resilient portfolios with performance potential

Amundi experts shared analysis, case studies and actionable recommendations to help institutional investors adjust their strategic and tactical allocations amid growing market complexity.
The practical discussions focused on:

  1.  Macro views and diversification levers: investors exchanged views on the current interest-rate and inflation environment, portfolio diversification across rates, FX, commodities and digital assets, and the integration of ESG criteria.

  2. Amundi convictions and thematic drivers: Jean Jacques Barbéris highlighted Amundi’s responsible investment convictions, noting how AI-driven energy creates opportunities in climate equities, sustainable infrastructure and green bonds. He closed by emphasizing the critical role of stewardship activities as a catalyst for positive change, grounded in our belief that well-managed companies are essential for long-term investment success. Vincent Mortier outlined macro and market risks—equity concentration and valuation, rising public debt—and emphasized the need for diversification.

  3. Geopolitical risk and portfolio implications: a dedicated session explored methods to analyze geopolitical risks, identify their portfolio impacts and incorporate them into allocation decisions, including model frameworks and practical risk management approaches.

  4. Building resilient allocations with liquidity and diversification: the event closed with market-liquidity trends and their structural impact, best practices for building resilient portfolios (balancing long-term strategy and short-term tactics), and diversification via ESG, FX, gold, crypto and alternatives. The program concluded with a review of emerging markets, our investment convictions across the EM universe, and guidance on constructing EMD portfolios along with investment ideas across EM sub-asset classes.

The format encouraged open dialogue through roundtables and interactive Q&A sessions, enabling direct exchange between participants and Amundi teams as well as among peers.
